It’s a New School Year!
by Scott Ragle
Editor
Few things are as essential as education. The new school year is here. Each of us has been given more opportunities
to learn than that of our predecessors.
Education is not preparation for life, it is life
itself. Education enables people and societies to be
what they can be. Each of us learns through education, how to better our
own lives and the lives of those around us. This school year, my challenge to
everyone that is affiliated with Sands CISD, is to learn, set goals, dream
dreams, and make the world a better place today and in the future. Commit to do great things with your life.
This year choose to do the right thing everyday of your life. Begin by making good decisions today, so
that it will be easier tomorrow. The decisions you make today are the seeds of tomorrow’s fruit. Your point of view of life, your estimation
of yourself, your personal value system, are all fundamentally colored by your
environment. Your whole life will be modified, shaped, and molded by your
surroundings, by the character of the people with whom you come in contact
every day. Make wise decisions during the year. Your
character is what you do when you think no one is looking. But remember, you are judged by what people
see when they are looking. Be
finicky, when you choose your friends.
Life
is a constant struggle.
It is a never-ending battle to bring success from hostile surroundings,
but it is also the price of all great achievements. No one that has achieved greatness in the
eyes of society did so without a struggle. A successful person
is not the victim of his surroundings. A successful person creates favorable
conditions, so that he can meet his goals and make his dreams come true.
Make choices that will help you achieve your goals.
When
you set your goals, don’t neglect to also create a good system that will
shorten the road to those goals. Your
desire will help you find a way, any sacrifices you make will be worthwhile if
the goal is worth achieving. Don’t be
afraid to dream. All
men who have achieved great things have been great dreamers. All men who
have made their dreams come true have done so by having great aim and a flat
trajectory. Keep your eyes fixed on
your target and shoot!
Be larger than your task. Within you lies more power than you think you
have. Wake the giant within you and get
to work on your future!
May
every student, parent, teacher, and all other staff at Sands has a wonderful
and educationally rewarding experience during this 2006-2007 school year.
Good
Luck,
Scott
From the Superintendent
I can’t believe school has
already started. I am excited about this new school year. We will be looking at
this years enrollment, just as we do each year. We will be comparing it to last years beginning enrollment. Our school funding is based on our average
daily attendance. It is really important for our school to try and keep our ADA
up for the future of our district. I
know that everyone will do his or her part.
Let me know if there is
anything I can help you with this year, as my door is always open to the
public.
Thank You,
Wayne Blount, Superintendent
From the Principal
Welcome to the 2006-2007 school
year. I am very excited about the new
school year and the challenges it provides.
Parents, I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s
education. If you have never taken a
very active role in your child’s education, you may wonder if you are too
late. You are not! It’s never too late! When school district employees work together
with families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school,
but also throughout life, which is what, each parent ultimately wants for their
child. Teamwork is the most significant thing we can do to ensure success and
make it happen.
School attendance is another
significant factor in learning. For
teachers to help students to be successful, attendance is one of the main keys
needed, to unlock their minds. Please
help us reach that goal by keeping your child in school. Thank you for all of your help, this school
year and in the past.
A quick reminder to parents,
that there will be no school on Labor Day.
As always, my door is
open.

Principal
From the Counselor
Parents and Students: Now is the time to begin visiting college
websites. Check on admissions
requirements, financial aid and scholarship information. Be sure to note all deadlines. Please encourage your student to take the
ACT or SAT as soon as possible, especially if he/she plans to attend a
four-year university. These scores also
play an important part in scholarship competitions, both in four-year
universities and two-year junior colleges.
FAFSA (Free
Application For Student Aid) needs to
be filed early in January. We will have
a special Financial Aid meeting in January to help parents and students with
this process. A FAFSA form must be
filed in order to receive the Federal Pell Grant or low-interest rate, student
and parent loans.
Another special “Thank
You” to the local scholarship donors who so graciously gave to our graduates,
this last year: The Sands Booster Club, The Farmers Coop Gin of Ackerly, and
Ben Bryan.
