HOOFBEATS
DECEMBER 2007
From the Editor
MERRY
CHRISTMAS
Twas still weeks before Christmas and all through the halls,
everyone was stirring, because of Basketball.
The faculty is running around like a chicken with no head,
Mrs. Bilbo just sent out an email that said “we need a break…or we’ll all be
dead!”
Thanksgiving has come and the time until Christmas seems slow,
we are busy with ballgames and tournaments that make the scoreboard glow.
This year is a strange one, already twice we’ve had snow,
we live out in West Texas, not up north you know.
The snow is
great but I don’t like the ice,
but a two hour delay each Monday would make each week real nice.
It is the
time of the year when the auditors are here to check all of our debits and
credits,
they make sure Mr. Blount and the Board don’t go over their spending limits.
As everyone
knows Chris is pulling double or triple duty…and filling in for Janette as she
is gone,
everyone at the school especially Mr. Blount and Chris hopes her absence will
be a quick one and not very long.
With the
change in weather Justin has to park the busses in the barn at night,
because starting a yellow dog school bus when it is cold outside can be quite a
fright.
The
Elementary have all put up their decorations and decorated their Christmas
trees,
this time of year also means the Flu season is here… some of us will have
aches, some a few coughs and some will sneeze.
With
Thanksgiving gone, the cafeteria has made it through one more turkey dinner,
as usual the turkey, dressing and fixings in the opinion of all were a winner.
We recently
hired new kitchen help they arrive at the school around five,
we are all thankful for the work they do as most of us are not up then, we are
barely alive.
The new
kitchen help has also taken over the nightmare Michelle calls the concession
stand,
we all need to thank her and the Junior Class for organizing that mess and give
them a great big hand.
As you can
see from this short rhyming chat, this time of year , our
time, spent at Sands, is at.
Although we
are all busy, it is also a fun time of year, of
course it better be because when we get back from the Holidays TAKS will be here.
So as this
ends my holiday iambic pentameter…
I wish a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to
all of the students, faculty and
parents of Sands CISD,
from someone who this month didn’t know what to write…little old me.
Scott Ragle
From the Superintendent
I would like to say that I hope
everyone had a good Thanksgiving Holiday this year. I wanted to remind everyone
that in the likely event of delays or cancellation of school due to inclement
weather. You may tune in to KBTS 95.7 on the F.M. dial, and KPET A.M. channel
690 in Lamesa, as well as check the TV station in Lubbock, Fox channel 34. In
Midland, you may tune to Channel 9, or channel 2 and all will post delay times. We will also try and post it on
the website http://sands.esc17.net/delays
Basketball season is upon us. Our JV tournament is this
weekend and it seems like we have had to eject at least one parent every year.
Fortunately, I can say that it has never been parents from our school district.
At this time I would like to take this time to encourage all of our fans to be
careful of the example they set for our students. There are many young students
that sit in the stands and watch the way we act as adults.
Treatment of officials by fans has made it difficult to retain good officials.
I know that it is hard when you have kids on the floor, but I also know that
yelling at referees the entire night will not help us get the next call.
Remember a referee’s job is not as easy as it looks from the stands. In fact
many times you have a better angle where you sit than the officials do. I
expect that our fans will respect officials and other teams and will continue
to exhibit good sportsmanship.
Thanks,
Wayne Blount
From the Principal
What a wonderful time of the school year December is. Christmas bells are ringing and basketballs
are bouncing! I love it all!!! Merry Christmas to All!
So much for my emotional, touchy, feely side and on with the important issues,
here at dear old Sands.
Attendance is a big issue at this time of year. If your child is running fever, please keep
him/her at home. If they are healthy,
then please send them. Research shows
that children who are in school most of the time, do better in school.
Tardiness also hurts a child’s education as well. A student who is 10 minutes late every day will miss 30 hours of
instruction during the year. Please
help us with your child’s attendance, as school districts are funded by student
attendance.
Also I would like to express a big “Thank You “ and “Congratulations” to all students who were involved in Elementary and Junior High UIL. With all the other activities, UIL is extremely hard to find time for and I really appreciate your effort this year. I would like to express many thanks to all of the teachers and parents that worked with each of these students.
Final exams for secondary students will be December 17th-21st, with early release days being on December 20th and 21st for all.
Lastly, parents, please become involved with your child’s education. Your child’s success depends on your involvement.
As always, my door is open
